I didn't have anything in particular to write about musically this time out. I've found it hard to answer questions about my musical taste, since it's all over the board. Hell, this week I even listened to a few cuts from The Jonas Brothers new album. I wanted to give it a fair shot instead of critiquing it as a Pre-Fab 3. The few songs I listened to were well crafted pop songs in the vein of Fountains Of Wayne, etc. Nice boys make nice album about nice girls. It ain't the end of the world. I'll stick to The Clash though, thanks.
But I digress. Here's a few of the things in music that make me smile or smirk, so maybe you can understand a bit about my musical background:
But I digress. Here's a few of the things in music that make me smile or smirk, so maybe you can understand a bit about my musical background:
- Stephen Malkmus forgetting the words to a song he wrote and having to ask someone in the band for help.
- Finding an old mix-tape on cassette.
- Sharing a beer with Dean & Britta.
- The Flaming Lips have puppies for adoption on their website.
- I'll always think of Johnny Angel as an asshole.
- Hearing the same random song several times in one day in different locales.
- That same song gets stuck in your head for fucking days.
- Witnessing Mark E. Smith getting hit it the head with a banana peel that was thrown by the singer of the opening act.
- I really miss Joe Strummer & John Lennon.
- Checking out tour dates of your favorite band and seeing that, YES!, they are playing here.
- Being called "Sir" by members of The Whigs when talking to them after a show.
- When the opening act blows the headliner off the stage and everybody knows it.
- In true Spinal Tap form, watching the guitarist for 1,000,000 Years B.C. get his guitar stuck in the ceiling tile at Chet's Last Call.
- Quitting my job to see The Fleshtones at The Rat.
- The smell of a new vinyl L.P.
- Making out with a girl from Quincy at Van Halen at Boston Garden.
- Billy Zoom looking right at you.
- Front row, baby!
- My youth is going to waste...Storyville is a Pizzeria Uno. The Rat is some high-end hotel. Where Nita's Hideaway was, is now a Bed, Bath & Beyond. The places I saw The Del Fuegos, Johnny Thunders & Elliott Smith, respectively, are now part of the corporate underbelly.
